Campus Representative Program
Campus Reps Main Page | Campus Rep Application
Mission
The mission of the Campus Representative (CR) program is to form a supportive, collaborative network of students and early career professionals interested in International Psychology. The CR program will facilitate two-way communication between the division and its student and early career members and will promote membership in the division.
Organization
Communication will be facilitated as follows: Division 52 leadership will communicate with Student and Early Career Committee (SECC) leadership. SECC leaders, in turn, will communicate with the Chair of the Campus Representative Subcommittee. The Chair of the CR Subcommittee will communicate with Campus Representatives, who communicate with their campus at large.
Qualifications
The following criteria must be met in order to be a campus representative:
Must be a member of Division 52 of the American Psychological Association
Must possess good organizational and leadership skills
Must possess good communication skills
Responsibilities
Educate students and faculty about APA, Division 52, and International Psychology
Inform students and faculty about Division 52 activities
Promote membership to Division 52 and the SECC
Maintain regular contact with the Chair of the CR Subcommittee providing them with:
- Information that the SECC leadership should be aware of
- Updates on dissemination of information at the campus level
- Feedback on the CR program
- Information about activities or promotions at the campus level
- Updates on membership recruitment
Activities
If you are not already a member, join Division 52. You may do this by filling out the application at http://internationalpsychology.net/membership/
Then register with the Student Committee. You may do this by clicking on the membership tab above.
Visit the Division 52 Student Committee website – it’s colorful, fun, and informative! Go to www.division52secc.org and peruse the site. You can even translate to different languages, like Japanese!
Share information about Division 52 SECC with your program. Also, think about other programs in psychology at your campus. While some programs are housed within a department of psychology, there may also be departments such as educational psychology, child or human development, psychiatry, and or other departments at your institution with which you may want to familiarize yourself.
Let students in your program and at your campus know that you are the Campus Representative for Division 52. Let them know how you can serve them as the CR (by sharing or posting the Division 52 newsletter, by sharing information about international opportunities, etc.)
Promote membership in Division 52 SECC! Ideas for this include:
- Have an international chat or discussion group meeting once a month; invite international students or international visiting scholars
- Meet with other members of Div 52 SECC monthly; have one person each month bring an “international” snack
- Post information and opportunities on a bulletin board in your department or other areas of campus
- Be aware of membership in Div 52 SECC on your campus; share information about the benefits of membership through annual or semester “informational” meetings
- Make sure your program and other areas of campus have access to Division 52 SECC membership; prominently display the website at which students and early career professionals may apply for membership
- Set up an email distribution list of SECC members or interested students and early career professionals for easy disbursement of information
If you have any questions, concerns, or administrative requests, direct them to the Chair of the Campus Representative Subcommittee. He or she will channel your request or concern to the appropriate person.
During your term as CR, locate another student or early career professional who is interested in taking over the CR position when you vacate. Help mentor him or her into the role.
If at any point you feel you’re having difficulty, or are unable to fulfill, the roles and responsibilities of Campus Representative, be sure to let the Chair of the CR Subcommittee know so that he or she can assist you.
Annually, please construct a brief list of goals you hope to accomplish for the school year. Send these to the Chair of the CR Subcommittee by October 1st.
Bimonthly, please contact the Chair of the CR Subcommittee and keep him or her posted about activities, progress on goals, membership recruitment, etc. It might help you remember if you put it in your planner or on your calendar now! Communicate with Chair CR Subcommittee: September 1, November 1, January 1, March 1, May 1, July 1.
THANK YOU so much for your hard work as Campus Representative! We really appreciate your time and efforts.
